Morgan Szymanski
Born in Mexico City, Morgan Szymanski studied at the Royal College of Music and Conservatorium van Amsterdam graduating with first class honours. He won 1st prize in the 2002 National Guitar Competition in Mexico and was a YCAT Artist between 2006-2010.
Over the last year Morgan has been selected as ‘one to watch’ by Gramophone Magazine and BBC Music Magazine and was featured artist on the cover of Classical Guitar Magazine. Engagements during 2009/10 included his debut at the Konzerthaus in Vienna, recitals at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Bermuda Festival, City of London and Gower Festivals and a series of recitals in China with flautist Adam Walker. He appeared as soloist with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields and returned to Mexico and the La Linea Festival at the South Bank with Machaca, an international ensemble he formed in 2006. In April Machaca released their second CD called Los Ambulantes (www.sarabanderecords.com).
This autumn Morgan gives the world premiere of a new concerto by Alec Roth with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields at venues around the country. He also gives a series of concerts in Mexico, Chile and Argentina as part of the Bi-Centenary Celebrations celebrating 200 years of independence from Spain.
As a soloist Morgan has appeared with the Hallé, Bournemouth Symphony, CBSO Youth, Macedonian Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras. He has recorded and given duo recitals with Mark Padmore and given recitals at Wigmore Hall, Sage Gateshead, Spitalfields and the London International Guitar Festivals.
