Born in 1986 in Liverpool, in 2004 Kathryn Rudge took up a scholarship to study at the Royal Northern College of Music with Susan Roper, graduating in 2008 with 1st Class Bmus (Hons). In 2010 she was selected for representation by Young Concert Artists Trust (YCAT). This summer she completed her postgraduate studies achieving a PGDip (Dist.) and in the autumn joins the RNCM International Artist Diploma scheme.
During her studies Kathryn‘s operatic roles have included Annio (Mozart La Clemenza di Tito), Cherubino (Mozart Le Nozze di Figaro), Sorceress (Purcell Dido & Aeneas) and Olga (Tchaikovsky Eugene Onegin), the latter for both Haddo House and the RNCM. She has also covered the role of Helénè (Offenbach La Belle Helénè) and sung excerpts from Handel’s Ariodante. This season she takes the title role in Bizet‘s Carmen and sings Erika in Barber’s opera Vanessa.
On the concert platform Kathryn has appeared as soloist on several occasions with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra working with conductors Carl Davis and Vasily Petrenko. She has sung Beethoven‘s Symphony No.9 with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Paul Daniels at the Royal Festival Hall, Mahler’s Das Knaben Wunderhorn in a pre-concert event at Bridgewater Hall, Karl Jenkins The Armed Man with Manchester Camerata, Berio and Hesketh Songs with the RLPO Ensemble 10/10. Future engagements include recitals at Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Jacqueline du Pré Music Building, the Chester and Spitalfields Festivals and concerts with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
During her studies Kathryn has won numerous prizes and awards including the Alexander Young, Frederic Cox and Joyce and Michael Kennedy Strauss prizes, together with the Annie Ridyard, Amanda Roocroft and Bridgitte Fassbaender awards. In 2009 she was awarded a silver medal by the Worshipful Company of Musicians. During 2010 she has received the Worshipful Company of Musicians Allcard Award and the Musicians Benevolent Fund Sybil Tutton Award. Kathryn will become a Samling Scholar during 2011. Nationally she has won a BBC Fame Academy Bursary, Yamaha MFE Scholarship, Kathleen Ferrier Bursary and the Bruce Millar/Gullivar Prize.
