We are delighted that the violist Timothy Ridout has won the prestigious Thierry Scherz Prize at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad Festival.
Under the artistic director Renaud Capuçon, this year the focus was on outstanding young viola players, who all gave recitals in the Chapel of Gstaad, and were mentored by Gerard Caussé.
The Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad Festival has always given a platform to young artists, and the Thierry Scherz Prize pays tribute to the co-founder and former artistic director of the Festival. This award will give Timothy the opportunity to record his first CD with orchestra.
Upcoming concerts for Timothy include concerts at Wigmore Hall with the Arod Quartet (25 Feb), Steven Isserlis, Jeremy Denk and Joshua Bell (23 Mar), Berlin Konzerthaus (20 Feb), Louvre (21 Mar) and Heidelburger-Frügling Festival. He performs the Walton Concerto with Baden-Baden Philharmonie (3 May), and Tonhalle Orchester Zurich (24 May).
