Mayumi Kanagawa wins 4th Prize at the XVI Tchaikovsky Competition

On 25 June 2019 violinist Mayumi Kanagawa performed Mozart Concerto No.5 and Tchaikovsky Concerto with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yuri Simonov and won 4th Prize. 

Mayumi is a new YCAT artist, selected at the Final Auditions in May 2019. Previous awards include 2nd Prize and the Concerto Prize at the 2018 Long-Thibaud Crespin Competition in Paris broadcast by France-Musique.

Born in 1994, of Japanese-American heritage, Mayumi is completing her studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin with Kolja Blacher.

Future engagements include a debut recital in Tokyo, and appearances as soloist with the Amadeus Orchestra in Tokyo and the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra.  She performs the Brahms Concerto and gives recitals at festivals in Caen, Tautavel and Rouen in France.
