In 2021 Sofía won the Chetham’s Concerto Competition, which was her first opportunity to play as a soloist accompanied by a full orchestra. She was a member of the National Children’s Orchestra and in 2022, Sofía became principal flutist for the National Youth Orchestra with whom she recently played for the BBC Proms at the  Royal Albert Hall.

She became a member of Stockport Youth Orchestra in 2017 and, in the same year, gained a place at Chetham’s where she began her flute studies with Fiona Fulton. Sofía has also received tuition from Helen Wilson and Amy Yule, and participated in masterclasses with renowned flutists such as Adam Walker, Gareth Davies, Gitte Marcusson and Joshua Batty.

At school, Sofía has played in a wide range of chamber ensembles. She also enjoys playing in jazz ensembles, Chetham’s Big Band and Afro-Cuban Band and is receiving tuition from Iain Dixon and Les Chisnall. Last summer, Sofía joined the National Youth Jazz Collective.

Sofía is grateful to the Young Classical Artists Trust for their generous support in their aftercare scheme for BBC Young Musician finalists.
